“The Donald” Learned the Hard Way That Latino Americans Are Not a Forgiving Audience

Donald Trump seems to have used “Napoleon Dynamite” as a guide to start his presidential campaign. An Artist in Reynosa, Mexico, created a piñata that resembles Trump, just like the movie. Trump started his campaign singling out Mexican illegal immigrants on June 16 and stated;
“They are not our friend, believe me…The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems…When Mexico sends its people, they are not sending their best. They are not sending you. They are sending people that have lots of problems, and they are bringing those problems to us. They are bringing drugs and they are bringing crime, and they’re rapists. Some, I assume are good people. But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we are getting. They are not sending us the right people. It’s coming all over South and Latin America and it’s coming probably from the Middle East. But we don’t know because we have no protection and we have no competence. We don’t know what is happening and it has got to stop and it has to stop fast.”

Corporations and celebrities have responded and cut ties with Mr. Trump. Macy’s and NASCAR have decided to separate their affiliations, while NBC and Univision have both decided not to broadcast the Miss Universe Pageant, owned by Trump. The reigning Miss Universe, Paulina Vega, took to Twitter to post her own feelings as a Colombian but will not be giving her crown up either as the Pageant has works independently from Trump although under his empire.

Many other prominent Latinos have spoken out. Shakira, Eva Longoria, Ricky Martin, and even the Mayor of New York Bill de Blasio. However, no one has been as articulate as Latino American Actress America Ferrera, who has used his words as a silver lining to unite Latino Americans to the polls. A link to her full statement is hyperlinked to her picture below.

Regardless of others comments, Mr.Trump stands by his remarks. Nevertheless, as you make up your own mind on immigration and our border, remember that all countries deal with illegal immigrants “bringing crime” and we share a physical boarder with Canada and Mexico. Just this June 6, escapees Richard Matt and David Sweat escaped the Clinton Correctional Facility and both were shot and apprehended near the Canadian border where they were no doubt trying to cross.

  1. Kudos for those who are speaking up about this. Donald makes it seem as if everyone coming into our country is a threat. Is he forgetting that this country was founded by immigrants?

  2. With his money, he should have had the best PR and script writers to start off his campaign. Instead Mr. Trump showed how far he could put his foot in his mouth right out the gate.

  4. I agree with Mike. This country was founded by immigrants. Unless you are a Native American, you are not native to this country. Trump probably had the purest of intentions when he said all of that. However, you wouldn't know it based on his poor choice of words. With such a large amount of Latinos in this country, myself included, he may have effectively ended his campaign before it ever took off.
